ANTI RAGGING Committee

The University Grants Commission has reiterated the ban on ragging of learners in Institutions of Higher Education. The learners admitted in the SEA College of Science Commerce and Arts are therefore directed to strictly desist from any kind of ragging in the college premises.

Forms of Ragging

Display of noisy, disorderly conduct, teasing, excitement by rough or rude treatment or handling, including rowdy, undisciplined activities which cause or likely to cause annoyance, undue hardship, physical or psychological harm or raise apprehensive fear in a fresher, or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such a student will not do in the ordinary course and which causes him/her shame or embarrassment or danger to his/her life, etc.

Mission 

To ensure compliance with the provisions of regulations as well as the provisions of any law for the time being in force concerning ragging; and also to monitor and oversee the performance of the Anti-ragging Squad in prevention of ragging in the institution.

Objectives of Anti Ragging Committee

Anti-Ragging Committee will be the supervisory and advisory committee in preserving a Culture of Ragging Free Environment in the college Campus. The main objectives of this cell are as follows:

  1. To aware the students of dehumanizing effect of ragging inherent in its perversity.
  2. To keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging so as to prevent its occurrence and recurrence.
  3. Too promptly and stringently deal with the incidents of ragging brought to our notice.
  4. To generate an atmosphere of discipline by sending a clear message that no act of ragging shall be tolerated and any act of ragging shall not go unnoticed and unpunished.

Anti-Ragging is a Criminal offence Ragging Constitutes any of the following acts: 

  1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating, or managing a fresher or any other student.
  2. Indulging in indiscipline activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
  3. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, torment or embarrassment to adversely affect the physique or psyche of that fresher or any other student. 
  4. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homo-sexual assaults, and stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
  5. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.

Punishment for Participation in/or Abetment of Ragging

Following Punishment may be given to the learners for Participation in/or Abetment of Ragging:
    1. Cancellation of admission from the college.
    2. Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits

  1. Suspension from attending lectures and practical’s/Expulsion from hostel.
    4. Lodging of FIR with the police.
    5. Fine up to Rs. 20,000/-

Anti-Ragging Committee composition

The institution has established Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in the year 2016. In the view of determination of the supreme court of India and Karnataka Educational Act 1983 to prohibit, prevent and eliminate ragging of any type the college Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has reconstituted the Anti-ragging committee in Compliance with UGC Regulations 2009 on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) reconstituted Anti -Ragging committee through the notification REF.NO.SEAD/1181/2017 dated 12-04-2017.
